Before the treatment, the patient must seek facial medical advice for an assessment by a qualified face peel practitioner and have their face or skin examined for signs of infections and other chronic or acute skin conditions. They can also have their skin type analyzed to see whether their skin is suitable for chemical peels. It is good to consult widely about this kind of treatment and understand what the treatment involves, why it is used and how it works.
Use home skin care cosmetics to prepare the skin for the peel for about two weeks prior to the treatment. Use facial cleansers suggested by your treating practitioner because some creams and medications are not recommended before a peel. Creams such as Retin-A and Retinova should not be used before chemical peel treatment but the doctor may in some cases advise their use after the treatment. For men, they are advised to avoid shaving on the day of the treatment because it exposes much of their pores to the harsh glycolic peel process.
After the treatment, patients should not have any facial treatment for about two weeks and also cease sun exposure because it will damage their delicate skin. They have to remember to use Sun Protection Factor 30 sunscreen after each treatment and during the treatment course to protect the skin from UV sun rays.
Just like the Salicylic Acid Peel treatments, the patients have to take care to look after their skin, as the new regenerating skin is still weak.
