The G-8 meeting was held in a resort in Canada near the Muskoka lakes region. The meeting was largely focused on foreign policy matters as the group was divided over how to safeguard themselves from another recession type situation.
The issue of the March sinking of a South Korean vessel was also discussed. According to a report submitted by a committee at the meeting the South Korean ship was indeed sunk by a North Korean torpedo.
According to some Japanese officials when harsh words were said against North Korea, it was only Russia that resisted tougher actions against North Korea.
