Home » TECH » Avoiding the Hype, Joining the Bandwagon of Expectation What Windows 8 Looks Like It Will Be

We are all getting the message that Microsoft is improving the way it is doing things with its operating system and the Windows 8 upgrade. This is not from the small amount of information they have been supplying. If their agile and very effective marketing strategy and pre-release hype-up is any indication of their improvements, we can expect a truly amazing operating system.

Since the apparent leak of the Windows 8 upgrade and the developer meeting at D9 Computex in Taipei, Taiwan, there has been a lot written about Windows 8 in a very short time. Now I am a regular contributor to many sites, particularly those related to computers and new technology, so as you can imagine, I have read a lot, if not just about everything there has been written so far about Windows 8. Yes, I have read all one billion articles and other reports.

  • Information Release I. What I can definitely tell you is simple. Only three distinct pieces of information have been available. They are spelt out here for you to read. Firstly, after the leak of Windows 8, Microsoft moved pretty fast to set up the D9 Computex Developer demonstration. The first thing, XXXXX, says on the day is “And remember, there is to be no recording of video, or taking photos of any kind during this demonstration”. I know all this because I have watched the YouTube video. Which, was obviously, not taken by someone sitting in the crowd holding their camera up for the whole 38 minutes. The footage is very clear, stable and focuses on what it should during the presentation. Actually, it is almost as good as you would expect for TV – funny that? So anyone of us can watch that video and see a whole range of features of the Windows 8 operating system, that is not actually called Windows 8, it is code named Windows 8.
  • Information Release II. Secondly, there was an advertisement reaching out for a very few number of developers and programmers to join a special division of security feature developers with Microsoft in Israel. It might be easy to think the advertisement was aimed at something more sinister like a military and government related project for the USA, because of the nature of the content, and the nature of the location, but anyone who knows a little about developing and programming knew, the taskforce that Microsoft is creating is around the security features of Windows 8. So we know Microsoft is developing some pretty high level and confidential security features. It makes sense to keep it that tight under wraps, otherwise hackers will know how to harass us on Windows 8 before we even get it. Microsoft state the NAP team was secretly developing an innovative network security feature for Windows 8 for both the user site, and the client side. From that we know the N stands for Network, and the A stands for Application, and we can pretty well guess the P, stands for Protocol or Platform. It was interesting the career posting was leaked from Haifa, Israel. It added a certain amount of intensity and 007-ness to the whole situation. It certainly was not kept very well under wraps, and a publicity stunt could not have been planned and executed any better.
  • Information Release III. The third and final piece of information available was the reports of one website because they had managed to dissect the remnants of the newest Mango ROM and some other parts that make up a yet to be released Windows 8 phone, which has many features of Windows 8 as we had seen it in the developer demonstration. They were able to analyse and detect elements that would be present in the Operating System, if the pieces they had were still operational. What we got was a confirmation of what we saw in the developer demonstration video, and the possibility that Windows 8 might actually come out a lot earlier than is expected, on a smartphone at least.

Any other piece of material we read or watch outside of the three mentioned above, is purely speculation, repetition and chatter related to that information. As of the date this article was posted, this is most definitely the case. Microsoft is definitely showing they are doing something very different with Windows 8, they have certainly learnt how to market it.
